Bed and Breakfast or Breakfast in Bed

When was the last time you had breakfast in bed. That is pampering.  October 5 is Bed and Breakfast day, somehow I don’t think having breakfast IN bed is what the organizers had in mind. Why not have breakfast in bed?

Problem is, if you live alone, who is going to assemble that scrumptious breakfast, plate it, and deliver it to you? You?

Sure, why not prepare your breakfast, place it on a tray, carry it back to the bedroom, crawl back into bed and eat in the comfort of your bed.

Does getting up out of bed, cooking a meal, then going back to bed seem a little ridiculous to you? Hey, don’t you deserve a little silliness? You don’t always have to be sensible you know.

How about if you don’t cook? If you prepare for breakfast in bed the night before? What if you could stumble into the kitchen, snag a spoon, open the refrigerator, grab your breakfast and a bottle of water, head back to bed, snuggle under the covers and enjoy a healthy, nutritious, yummy breakfast in bed? Would you do it? There are several recipes for overnight oatmeal and yogurt around the web.

The oatmeal breakfast can be a parfait, layer the oatmeal mixture with frozen fruit for a healthy, easy, meal that feels special.

If oatmeal isn’t your idea of a good breakfast, or you’re a coffee drinker, no problem. Most coffee makers will produce a cup of java in just a few minutes. While the coffee is making, plop a slice of raisin bread in the toaster, top with butter and cinnamon sugar. If you’re not a raisin bread fan, regular bread topped with peanut butter is a tasty choice, or pop a muffin in the microwave to warm. When the coffee is ready, take it and your food of choice back to bed with you.

If the idea of eating in bed holds no appeal to you, I would probably make a colossus mess which I’d then have to clean up. Making more work doesn’t sound much like pampering to me.  Instead, maybe take time to have a slow leisurely breakfast. Eating in  your night-gown, relaxing and savoring the taste of your morning.

No, breakfast in bed, or even just in pjs aren’t an every day event. That’s what makes it special. Go ahead, treat yourself, have a leisurely breakfast, in bed or not, next chance you get.
